If you know anything about me, you know that I enjoy gin. Recently, I have come to terms with that fact that I will not be going on our class trip to France this year. So, instead of spending the $5000+ to fly across the ocean (which is totally worth it, I know) I will put some of my money towards a collection of gin and other liquors I fancy. I started it off this evening with the purchase of Bluecoat American Dry Gin, a tickle too patriotic for my tastes but hopefully this stuff tastes delicious. Other things I have my eye on include:
Root Organic Liquor
Snap Organic Liquor
Red Lillet
Pimms
Aviation Gin
Blackwoods Small Batch Gin
Bols Genever Gin
Cadenhead Old Raj Gin
Crop Famer's Organic Gin
Death's Door Gin
Right Swedish Gin

I like lavender
I like it so much that a few weeks ago Kyle and I went on a late night walk, scissors in hand, and harvested some lavender ourselves from other people's front lawns. We figured that we'd just take a bit from everywhere to get a good variety of lavender but also so that we wouldn't take too much from one place. Regardless, we used our stolen lavender to make an infused simple syrup which then traveled up north with us to a friend's cottage where it made fast friends with a bottle of gin and some soda water. I also planted some of the seeds that were left over and noticed that they have just begun to sprout. Soon we won't need to "utilize" other people's plants.
Lavender Syrup
1/2 cup fresh lavender flowers
3 cups water
1 1/2 cups organic sugar
1. Place the water and sugar in a saucepan and heat over low heat until all the sugar has dissolved. Turn the heat up and bring to a boil for about 15 minutes or until a light syrup develops.
2. Take off the heat and add the lavender to the syrup. After a quick stir, cover the saucepan and let it sit out overnight.

3. Strain through a fine sieve into containers and store in the fridge.

Granny
I've been working on a crocheted granny square quilt for about a year and it has been coming along very, very slowly. Most of the squares I made were complete crap with the exception of this one...

"You made about 1000 loops with a little hook and now you're tearing up all your work?"

Ummm, yes.

So this is my new pattern.

And my new granny squares. Now I have about 150 more to make.
So I decided on a new granny square pattern that is a bit easier (considering this is my first crochet project) and the squares are a bit bigger too. So I tore up all my bad squares from the first quilt, which is something Kyle always cringes at.

Let's get this Party Started
School starts today (at noon) and so does my return to regular blog postings. I will also be posting on "Days in a Year" quite soon, I just have to organize all the little films I made over the summer and convert all the files. See you soon!
